Beekeeper of the Month
Our May Beekeeper of the Month is Gray Furgurson! She started with two hives and a beekeeping class from Craig LeGlue in 2023—and now proudly running 3 hives and loving every minute of it! Beekeeping hasn’t been easy for her (expensive, labor-intensive, and lost the first two hives that winter), but thanks to amazing mentors like Steven Taylor and Craig LeGlue, she stuck with it. In 2024, a swarm moved in, and she’s been growing ever since!She retired from Lowe’s Hardware in 2013, but still stays busy with her husband’s construction business and also working with Beez Needz during nuc/package days. She also teaches bee classes twice a week to senior citizens and elementary students occasionally here in Randolph County—because in beekeeping, education is everything.
She is keeping it simple with just 3 hives and exploring queen rearing with her new queen castle. Who knew retirement would be so sweet?
