March 2026 Education Day

Making Successful Splits

Spring is almost here, and in North Carolina that means one thing for beekeepers — it’s time to start thinking about splits. As colonies begin to build up quickly, knowing when and how to split your hives can make the difference between preventing swarms and losing bees. That’s why we’re excited to invite you to our next Education Day at Beez Needz, where we’ll be focusing on “Making Successful Splits.”

Join us on March 14, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM for a free, in-depth session led by Master Craftsman Beekeeper Kim Guillemette. Kim will walk us through the entire process — from recognizing when your hive is strong enough to split, to understanding brood balance and queen considerations, to choosing the right type of split for your goals. Whether you’re planning a simple walk-away split or building nucs to grow your apiary, this class will help you approach spring with confidence.

Splitting isn’t just about increasing hive numbers. Done correctly, it helps control swarming, strengthens genetics in your bee yard, and sets your colonies up for a productive honey flow. Done incorrectly, it can leave both colonies struggling. That’s why education matters — especially during this critical time of year.

Education Day at Beez Needz is always more than just information. It’s a time to gather with fellow beekeepers, ask questions, share experiences, and build community. After the session wraps up at noon, lunch will be provided, so stick around and connect with others who are just as passionate about bees as you are.

This is a free event, and there’s no need to RSVP — just come ready to learn. We’re located at 3662 Edgar Rd in Sophia, NC 27350. If you have questions, give us a call at 336-431-2339, visit BeezNeedz.com, or email Beez@BeezNeedz.com

We can’t wait to see you and help you head into spring prepared for a successful season. 🐝
